To awaken each student’s capacity for love of learning, for independent thinking, and for heartfelt service to the world.

Our values

What guides us.

We value humanity, equality, community, and freedom. We offer an education grounded in these principles.

1

We are guided by an understanding of human development — elaborated by Rudolf Steiner — as the foundation of our work. The pace, priorities, and practices of our full curriculum, Early Childhood through High School, grow from it
2

We strive for a student community that reflects the diversity of greater San Diego.
3

We welcome students, parents, and teachers committed to social inclusiveness and environmental stewardship.
4

We guide every student toward higher learning through a curriculum that integrates science, mathematics, humanities, and the arts.

Our vision

What drives us.

The focus of our work is the development of the whole human being. To further it, we strive to provide a beautiful, cohesive campus that radiates learning, working, and playing — one that attracts and sustains a full and diverse enrollment. We work and serve in the world community as stewards of social renewal.

Our goals

What we strive for.

Six things we want for every child who leaves WSSD:

1

A life-long love of learning
2

Independent, creative thinking
3

Heartfelt service to the world
4

Active environmental stewardship
5

A balanced perspective, built through immersion in the arts, sciences, and humanities
6

Moral maturity and a strong sense of self-worth

WSSD is a fully accredited member of WASC (the Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and AWSNA (the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America), an accredited WECAN early-childhood program, and a member of NAIS (the National Association of Independent Schools).

The best way to understand a Waldorf education is to see it.

Tours run regularly throughout the school year — about 60 to 90 minutes, with time to ask the questions a website can’t answer.
